As climate change makes extreme weather a regular occurrence, the world is actively enacting more policies to mitigate its impact. NET-ZERO CARBON (Carbon Neutrality) is one of the commitments. Carbon neutrality refers to balancing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by removing an equivalent quantity of carbon from the atmosphere in exchange for the amount created; then the concepts of carbon credits is derived. Government formulates corresponding regulations to control carbon emissions, such as the carbon fees and carbon taxes. Not surprisingly, the major carbon emitters in the manufacturing industry are the first wave. To reach the new standard, enterprise must first implement carbon footprint calculation to carry out the following carbon emission reduction plan.

As one of the leading roles in power supply manufacture industry, MEAN WELL also faces the massive carbon emissions issue. Any manufacturer that produces electronic products and equipment must undergo burn-in and aging tests in the production process. However, the burn-in process consumes a lot of electricity and produces a large carbon footprint. However, to reduce the energy consumption effectively and efficiently, MEAN WELL self-develops “ERG-5000(H)”, an Energy Recycling Burn-in System.

ERG-5000(H) is an Energy Recycling Burn-in System with a rated input of 5kW and a maximum of 6kW. The energy-saving rate can reach up to 88%, ultimately helping save energy and reduce carbon. The burn-in mode can choose CC or CV mode. The 4-channel design can be flexibly matched with the application of the DUT in series or in parallel. In addition, the burn-in DC input voltage range of ERG-5000 is 10~60V, and ERG-5000H is 60~420V. Users can choose the suitable models based on burn-in and aging applications requirements. Built-in CANBus communication protocol, which can be used with CMU2A or controlled and set by coding.

The following takes the Energy Recycling Burn-in System of MEAN WELL production line as an example. Figure 1 is the basic configuration diagram. The entire production line uses a total of 7 CMU2A and 108 ERG-5000 units.
